Lately, I was thinking a lot about should I invest in Apple AirPods or not. Before I go further, I want to mention that I am very much clear I terms of my boundary between my needs and wants. This theory of mine has helped me immensely to make wise decisions in terms of the purchases I have made in the past. I won’t say that all of my purchases were worth the bucks but most of it were.
Another aspect I always keep in mind that I never buy something just to show off, showing off is not cup of my tea at all. I believe in simple living and high thinking, but that doesn’t mean my goals are smaller in any way, they are big in fact bigger. I have taste in buying & investing in properties so that’s where I give myself leeway to go nuts at times.
If you look at my life I work in IT as software leader and agile coach, I do use/need phone but not that not in a crazy way that I am on the phone most of the time. If you are someone where you have to be on the phone for a fairly good amount of time on daily basis, then no doubt AirPods will make your life way easier, just go and get them, trust me you won’t repent a second. No hassle to keep phone in your hands, no wires to connect your earbuds to your phone
Why I bought AirPods although I don’t use phone that much?
Fair question, my answer to that is I am a Podcast and Audible (audio books) freak, I listen to them almost throughout the day either I am driving, walking or doing some house chores or sometimes in the office also in case I get some free time. Most of the time my wired EarPods were on, and you know it’s always (most of the time) a hassle to connect wires, my biggest issue was to untangle the EarPods wires, no matter what you do these wires gets tangled…damn! I used to put wired EarPods on and off almost 6 to 7 times a day based on the free time slots I get, at times it was charm to put on the EarPods but once or twice daily I had to deal with the wires specially during driving.
I was already not happy with the wired EarPods but was still in double mind to buy AirPods as I wasn’t able to justify ROI (Return On Investment) as they are pretty expensive to be true, but then at times you have to make the call, so that’s what I did. There’s a saying:
“You can never be 100% sure for every decision you make in your life, as long as you are above 70% sure just make the call”
I was pretty sure I was above 70% confident to but the AirPods based on the facts I have, so I did make the purchase 🙂
It’s been two weeks now, trust me when I say that AirPods are the one of my best investment, I got so used to them now.
Another Benefit: iPhone Charging Hassle SOLVED
Another benefit of AirPods is that you can charge you phone while you are on the call via AirPods, you know what I mean as with wired EarPods you can’t do that unless you have wireless charger. Many times you will see you have hardly any battery in the phone but you need to get on an urgent call while driving.
Bonus: Extra iPhone charging cable 🙂
When you buy a AirPods, it comes with an extra iPhone charging cable as both AirPods and iPhone charges share the same interface. This was big for me as I was looking to buy a new iPhone charging cable. I lost my original iPhone charging cable, then I tired few cables from different vendors, I remember I bought a pair from Walmart which worked well for few months then it stopped working. Bought another cable from Amazon that too didn’t long. So I was in desperate need to buy original iPhone charging cable which normally costs around $30 (Canadian) + tax. Indirectly I saved ~$40 (Canadian) with my AirPods purchase.
Buying vs actually using the product are two different things, there are many times we buy stuff just for the sake of a deal or promotion but we never end up using it, avoid that pit fall all together, better be a minimalist than maximalist. As long as your boundary between NEED vs WANT is clear you should be good.
Whenever you are in a doubt to make a purchase just take a pen and paper, divide paper in two sections on one section write Pros on other write Cons, within 10 minutes you will have enough facts to make the final call. Try to out you won’t repent.
Awesome post! Keep up the great work! 🙂
Thank you!
